Dear Tortoise Lovers,

Another ill-prepared tortoise owner realized they were in over their head, and instead of learning to properly care for their shelled-baby, they secretly abandoned it over the fence of a rescue. No name, no information, no request for help, not even a proper goodbye.

Unfortunately, we can't save them all, and it hurts my heart.

If you've ever experienced the loss of a tort-baby I like I have, you know it can be devastating. If you've ever seen a sick and suffering tortoise, that has little to no chance of survival, you know how heartbreaking that can be. I deal with this more times than I'd like to, but I can't do it all by myself. I need your help!

I have decided to give abandoned tortoises a fighting chance by rehabilitating them and then placing them in their forever home with a family who will properly love and care for them. TortLife Ranch has partnered with The Treasure Coast Tortoise King, Busch Wildlife Center, Harmony Animal Hospital, and Treasure Coast Wildlife Hospital to ensure they get the best care, and are nursed back to full health before being adopted out. We need people like you to step up and love them so that we can continue to rescue and rehabilitate others that find themselves over the fence of our rescue.

Attention Prospective Tortoise Owners!

- Tortoises aren't "Set it and forget it" pets. They require a balanced diet, plenty of room to roam, the right environment and humidity, regular veterinarian check-ups, and lots of love.

- They don't stay small forever. It's true. Just like our human babies, they grow up, and sometimes they get very big! Most tortoise owners are not equipped to properly handle them and that's when we run into issues.

- They suffer abandonment issues. Countless tortoises are dropped off daily at wildlife hospitals, rescues, or worse, released into the wild because untrained pet owners decide they are just too much of a hassle to find them a proper home.
